              Mount Airy, Surry N.C.  Aug. 23d 1847.  My Dear Frances, My health and spirits are good; indeed they could not well be otherwise in this healthy and romantic rejion.  So far this has been one of the most pleasant camp meetings we have attended; and it promises to be the best, notwithstanding we have had the most listless and wicked rabble from the coves and dens of the mountains.  On yesterday we had about 2,000 attentive hearers, and it is believed about 2,000 real [?].  At 11 o'clock I preached on baptism while the people paid the most marked attention, and a fine effect was produced.  It is not but 8 o'clock on Monday morning, and the friends have already raised $10 for its publication; they intend to raise about $20 here.  The Siamese Twins were among our hearers yesterday.  This morning I breakfasted at the same table with them.  They are a couple of little, ugly, tawny fellows, in features resembling the African quite as much as the European.  In conversation they are quite agreeable.  They pay good attention to preaching, and professed to be convinced on yesterday that there is more than one mode of baptism.  Perhaps you have learned by this time that the trustees of the college have been sued for about $1100.  Do not be alarmed at it.  Tell bro. Blake that bro.
