The Carolina Journal of Pharmacy 249 University Lunclteon Launciies Researcfi Foundation A four-point program for the development of the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Research Foundation, Inc., was announced at a three hour luncheon meeting at Cliapel Hill on June 4. Approximately 100 pharmacists attended the luncheon as guests of the University of North Carolina. The program calls for the establishment of research fellowships, a drug plant garden for the experimental culture of medicinal plants, funds to supplement the State salary scale for the faculty members of the School of Pharmacy, and the establishment of an information bureau in The School of Pharmacy to provide answers to dispensing problems of pharmacists. Roger A. McDuffie, Greensboro, and E. A. Brecht, Chapel Hill, president and secretary, respectively, of the Foundation, pointed out the main purposes of the organization. Secretary Brecht said: "It is the only college foundation devoted exclusively to pharmacy and is the first foundation to be formed by professional men specifically for research.'' Other speakers included President Frank P. Graham and Controller William D. Carmichael, Jr., of the University, and Dean M. L. Jacobs of the School of Pharmacy. As a concluding feature of the luncheon, Secretary W. J. Smith of the N. C. P. A. was presented a new automobile in recognition of his services to the profession. The auto, made possible by contributions from 56 members of the N. 0. P. A., two members of the T. M. A., six wholesale drug houses and one manufacturer, was officially presented to Mr. Smith by C. M. Andrews, Burlington, Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, anfl J. Floyd Goodrich, Durham, Secretary-Treasurer of The Traveling Men's Auxiliary. �Due to the far-reaching significance of The Foundation, plans have been made to publish the luncheon talks in their entirety in the July issue of The Carolina Joiknal of Pharmacy. Pictures made at the luncheon will appear at the same time. Stanback Contributes $1,000 to Institute of Pharmacy Officials of the Institute of Pharmacy have acknowledged another generous contribution to the Building Fund. This time a $1,000 provisional contribution l>y T. M. Stanback of Salisbury. Due to an agreement whereby funds not used on or before August 15, 1951 YfiW be returned to the donors, Mr. Stanback's contribution, as outlined in the following letter, fully meets \ the requirements as designated by The i Building Committee: Dear Mr. Smith: On December 30, 1946 I contributed to the Salisbury Community Foundation the sum of $1,000.00 for your Building Fund to be withdrawn when building construction is started. In the event the building is not begun within five years from December 30; 1946 the money will then become a part of the general funds of the Salisbury Conununity Foundation. You will give the Foundation sixty days nt)tice when you wish to make withdrawal. Yours very truly, (Signed) T. M, Stanback.
