of Nursing, Charlotte, assigned to Francis E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming. Commissioned a second lieutenant recently was Gerald Jean Blum, Abbeville, S. C., graduate of Memorial Mission Hospital School of Nursing, Asheville, assigned to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. The Navy Nurse Corps announces the following transfers: Lt. Frances W. Beck of Greensboro, graduate of City Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, transferred from Naval Air Station, Chincoteague, Va., to Naval Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.; Lt. Sara T. Reed, Camden, S. C., graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Charlotte, transferred from Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, Wash., to Naval Hospital, Charleston, S. C. Four North Carolina nurses have been named for promotions in the United States Air Force and Navy Nurse Corps as a result of the Career Incentive Bill supported by ANA and passed by Congress last August. Promoted to the rank of permanen major in the Air Force Nurse Corps ari Rita Connors, Lora Face, Mary F. Spisak, and Mary E. Van Diver. The legislation under which these promotions were made possible provides ari increase in the number of nurse officers permitted ranks above captain and lieutenant and was part of ANA’s 1957 legislative program. The new law raises by one grade the career expectancy of the| average nurse. Under the amended Army-Navy Nurses Act, all qualified nurses and medical specialists who have completed 14 years service are advanced to the rank of permanent major in the Air Force and commander in the Navy. Although these North Carolina nurses are not NCSNA members, their new promotions are due to a great extent to ANA and NCSNA legislative activities. This is just another example of how ANA and NCSNA programs help all pro-fessonal nurses. -D QJ (D 9^ DO fD 3 C cq‘ > -D S Z Z --- o 1 p ---1 p 00 o > ---1 'Nj CD m m i
