Telephone: 821-4250 Non-degree programs can seek ANA accreditation The ANA Commission on Nursing Education Is completing details of a mechanism to accredit nurse practitioner programs which are non-degree granting. The Commission urges directors of all programs desiring to apply for accreditation to request the study guide on the approval mechanisms, which will be forwarded In the near future. The Council on Continuing Education, in conjunction with the Commission on Nursing Education, for the past 18 months has been developing a system for the approval of non-degree granting and short-term continuing education programs which prepare nurses to function In an expanded role. The first official process for approval of nurse practitioner programs which are non-degree granting will be completed by^he Commission in January. Clinical content relative to criteria for expanded role programs have been developed by the respective Divisions on Practice in the following areas: ambulatory pediatric nursing, school health nursing, college health nursing, neo-natal nursing, obstetric-gynecologic nursing, and geriatric nursing. Content criteria are now being developed in other areas so that the approval process can be initiated in all expanded role programs. About people...
