Eleven nurses are in the military service, three of whom are in foreign fields. Miss Janie Johnston is in Australia. A donation of $50 was made to the Tied Cross War Emergency Fund. Alumna? association activities include aiding sick members, entertaining graduating classes of their nursing schools with banquets, dances and picnics. One alumna? association has a scholarship fund to aid prospective student nurses. INE—Wilmington. N The strategic location of Wilmington has probably influenced the members of the Wilmington Xiirses' ^Association in their participation in civilian defense. Xurses are organized for civilian protection and have been assigned to emergency hospitals and casualty stations. They are taking part in semimonthly drills. The District Xursiug Council for War Service was organized in July with Augusta Futch as chairman and Mrs. ^ilaggie Lou Jloore George as secretary. The council has been concerned with rendering adequate general and private duty nursing services to a community which has greatly and rapidly increased its population. Another problem has been the cooperation with welfare workers in the care of children of defense workers. Tied Cross enrollment and recruitment of student nurses ar.^ other functions of the council. The March meeting consisted of a special Red Cross program. Lillian Bayley. Consultant, North Carolina State Board of Health, Raleigh, spoke to members of the district on Red Cross enrollment, June 10. Several luirses from District JTine are in military service. Katherine E. Kehdcr has recently been assigned to the 65th General Hospital now stationed at Fort Bragg, X. C.
