fie North Carolina League For Nursing p. O. BOX 687 chapel hill. north carolina 27514 REPLY TOi PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE An annual convention is many things....a time to hear new ideas that will motivate us to improve our practice,...a period for learning new ways to meet program needs and solve nursing problems....an opportunity to renew friendships and make new acquaintances....the chance to experience the exhilaration of being part of an organization that is moving forward. Another busy year of NCLN activity has passed and we are again approaching convention time I The Fifteenth Annual Convention will be held March 16 and 17 at the Sir Walter Hotel in Raleigh. Dr. William H. Stewart, Suregon-General of the Public Health Service, has said recently, "No single group is more important to the day-in, day-out delivery of health care....none of the health professions is at a more critical moment in its development than nursing....to fulfill our present national health potential requires that we strengthen vital partnershipsprivate and public; local, state, and national; individual and organizationalin creative action for health." We hope that through attendance at the convention, and in other ways, NCLN can provide insights that will assist you in strengthening these partnerships and in fulfilling your commitment to meeting the nursing needs of the people of North Carolina. The theme for the convention is "Providing for the Extension of Quality Nursing into the Community Home, Hospital, Clinic." Distinguished speakers, who are leaders in nursing innovation, will share with us their experiences in finding new ways to provide effective nursing care in many settings. Our keynote speaker is Miss Doris Schwartz, Cornell University-New York Hospital School of Nursing, New York; Miss Angela Colctti will be the NLN Representative for the Convention and will speak at the Friday luncheon. The convention will also provide the members with an opportunity to hear, from North Carolinians, some of the major community health needs facing the state now and an anticipation of future community needs. Featured speakers will be Dr. Jacob Koomen, Dr. Burns Jones, and Miss Elizabeth Holley of the North Carolina State Board of Health; Miss Louise Egan of the Department of Community Colleges and others in the state who are concerned with the problem of extension of quality nursing into the community. In addition to the fascinating program, we have a new approach to the convention format. The keynore speaker at 1:30 P. M. Thursday will be followed by the business meeting, and later by an evening program session. Friday we begin at 9:30 A. M. with a program session featuring panel presentations; the luncheon with speaker will be the final session. We hope that this more compact programing will enable more members to attend with a minimum of difficulty. he end that the nursing needs of people will be MFt--
