North Carolina League For Nursing p. O. BOX 687 chapel hill. north carolina 27514 REPLY TO:_______ NEWSLETTER SPECIAL PRE-CONVENTION ISSUE February, 1966 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE March and convention time are fast approaching and with them, an opportunity for NCLN members to share discussions of the use of clinical facilities for the preparation of nursing personnel m North Carolina. VJe are hopeful that these second steps will advance us toward our goal of better prepared practitioners. I believe that you will be pleased with the reports of committee activity, in which so many of you have participated throughout this year. Nearly one hundred members have contributed, in this way, to furthering the goals and programs which we believe to be the responsibility of NCLN. Last year you provided for continuity in achieving these goals by your approval of the By-Laws change providing for a president-elect. Mrs. Patricia Conklin has given tremendous support and assistance to your President throughout this year by her dedicated work on several committees as a Headquarters Committee Chairman. I am confident that we will achieve the continuity we have been seeking throughout Mrs. Conklin's two year presidential term and in the years to follow under the president-elect system. You will have before you, for your consideration at convention, a proposed By-Laws change which has been recommended by your Board of Directors. That proposal is for a change in State League dues from $5.00 to $10.00 per year. This increase will serve to get our programs on a sounder financial basis "^'han has been possible at any time in NCLN history. The Finance Committee has prepared a very carefully considered and realistic budget for 1966-67. Their goal has been to eliminate deficit budgeting and yet to provide financial support to the program that we have all stated NCLN must take responsibility for. Even though we have reluctantly eliminated some contributions to other organizations and related programs, the 66-67 budget will require resorting to use of our small savin,<;s account which wil.T be exhausted within one or rwo years. It is interesting---and historically amusing---to note that the only NCLN dues change has been a reduction of State League dues within a year or two of our beginnings. We have respect for the conservatism of early beginnings but if we are to achieve the goals to which we now aspire we must provide the support for them through the very tangible evidence of a raise in dues. I urge your affirmative vote on increasing the personal support of each of us to NCLN for 1967-1968. ..TO THE END THAT THE NURSING NEEDS OF PEOPLE WILL BE MET'
