MARTIN MELIORIAL ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION Mrs. Lucy H. Johnson, R. N., President, Mount Airy The Martin Memorial Al^jinnae Association held nine regular meetings with an average attendance of twenty-eight. The Association has a total membership of eightyforty-two of which are active members. This shows an increase of ten per cent in membership. We have fifteen new members and eleven new subscriptions to the American Journal of Nursing. The Association has had interesting programs during the year. Programs and activities were: Donated $1,000.00 to the new Northern Hospital of Surry County to memorialize a pediatric ward in the name of the Martin Motaorial Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association. In December the American Red Cross gave special recognition to all local Red Cross nurses. Had the Alumnae Christmas Party to which husbands were invited. The attendance at the party was approximately sixty. Twelve members volunteered for the bloodmobile unit in February. Others helped during summer months. Wrote letter to our new Hospital Auxiliary assuring the Alumnae cooperation in opening the new hospital and expressing our appreciation for all they had done. Appointed a Telephone Committee to call all members before each meeting. Donated $10.00 to the Polio Fund. Annual Scrapbook being compiled for homecomings, etc. Donated to Student Loan Fund in honor of an alumnae member now deceased. Donated $10.00 to each the Red Cross and Cancer Fund. Hospitality chairman appointed to welcome new and old nurses returning to Mount Airy. Assisted in open house for the Northern Hospital of Surry county. In March a committee of the Al'omnae met with new Hospital Board of Directors for the purpose of discussing the re-opening of the School of Nursing. Students will be admitted in the fall of '58.
