Reduction in Death Rate.—The nine county health departments which have been organized have been uniformly successful and have impressed the citizens of the counties with their usefulness. It has been demonstrated beyond doubt that a county can lower its sick and death rates and that it is economical for a county to do this. At this point it is interesting to note, for example, the decrease in the number of cases and the number of deaths from typhoid fever as a result of the soil pollution work.
