BULLETIN OF THE NORTH CAROLINA BOARD OF HEALTH. 12 1 The general condition of county is good. The water works will be completed by the middle of June, but drinking water will still be obtained from wells as being better than hydrant water. Rtitherford—V>x, E. B. Harris, Rutherford-ton. Measles, whooping cough, and scarlatina have been the prevailing diseases. County and public buildings are in good condition. Sampson—Dr. J. A Stevens, Clinton. Bronchitis and pneumonia have prevailed. Whooping cough and measles to a slight extent. Jail and poor-house in good condition. Stvain—Dr. R. L. Davis, Charleston. Measles and whooping-cough have prevailed. Sanitary condition of county is good. There has been one case of typhoid fever reported. Jail is not in good condition but commissioners are making arrangements to build a new one. Transylvania—Dr. D. H. P'^armer, Brevard. Sanitary' condition of county is not good. There have occurred over 200 cases measles and roseola, with many cases bilious catarrhal affections among children, and severe cases of influenza. Our commissioners are on the eve of establishing a poor-house. Other public buildings in good condition. Tyrrell—Dr. Ab. Alexander, Columbia. Whooping-cough, complicated with influenza', has pr^ailed in all parts of the county. There is less sickness than last month. Public buildings in good condition. Union —Dr, W. C. Ramsay. Monroe. Measles and whooping-cough have prevailed in many portions of county. Some few cases of pneumonia have occurred, generally following measles. Vance - Dr. J. H. Tucker, Henderson. Measles, whooping-cough and usual winter diseases have prevailed. Sanitary condition of county good. IVake -Dr. James McKee, Raleigh. No contagious or infectious diseases reported. Sanitary condition of county and public buildings good. IVarren—Dr. P. J. Macon. Warrenton. Catarrhal fevers, varicella, a great deal of pneumonia and. in the low-land section, chills have prevailed. There has been a cough very typical of whooping cough. The general health of county is fairly good, but not so good as last month. Will make an effort to have our town thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. IVas/iinofon—Dr, W. H. Ward, Plymouth. No report. Watauga—Dr. W^ B. Councill, Boone. Measles and whooping-cough have been the prevalent diseases. Hog cholera has been epidemic in this county. Wavne—Dr. Jas Spicer, Goldsboro. No report since November. 1886. lVilsc7i—Vix, A. D. Moore, Wilson. No report since November, 1886. Yancey Dr. AV. P. Whittington, Burns-ville. No report. At the meeting of the North Carolina Board of Health, held in Charlotte on the 14th day of April last, there were two vacancies to be filled by vote of the N. C. Medical Society. The vote resulted in the re-election of Drs. Richard H. Lewis, of Raleigh, and R.L. Payne, of Lexington. The latter gentleman asked to be excused from serving, and Dr. H. T. Bahn-son, of Salem, was elected in his place. There were three other vacancies occurring at this time, by the expiration of the terms of the members appointed by the Gover»:.or.
