[The mark * is placed opposite voluntary correspondents.] Bruns7aicJ^—'Dr. D. B. McNeill,* Supply. Whooping-cough has prevailed in the central, southern and western portions of the county. There is not much sickness. A few cases of malarial and typho-malarial fever. Buncombe—Dr. \V. L. Hilliard, Asheville. Pneumonia, acute bronchitis and whooping-cough have prevailed in portions of county. The crop of measles seems to be about exhausted. Two or three cases of typhoid fever have occurred. County and public buildings in good sanitary condition, Btoke—\yx. J. L. Laxton, Morganton. No report. i Cabarrus—Dr. Robert S. Young, Concord. The prevalent diseases have been measles and whooping-cough. Sanitary condition of county and pubUc buildings is good. Caynden—Dr. E. B, Ferebee,* Belcross. Measles and whooping-cough have prevaile-d in the upper and middle portions of county. There have also occurred a few cases of pulmonary and malarial diseases and one case of er>'sipelas. There has also been an epidemic of distemper among horses. County and public buildings all in good condition. Catawba—Dr. George H. West, Newton. Measles liave prevailed. There have also occurred a few cases of typhoid fever. Chatha7}i—Dr. H. C. Jackson, Pittsboro. Pneumonia and influenza have been the prevailing diseases. Public buildings in pretty good sanitary condition. Cleveland—Dr. J. C. Gidney, Shelby. The sanitary condition of county is generally pretty good. There have been a few cases of pneumonia and five or six deaths from measles. The latter disease is now abating. The jail is not well arranged for the comfort of prisoners. Columbus—Dr. I. Jackson, Whiteville. An epidemic of roseola and influenza has prevailed in some parts of county. Typhoid fever and whooping-cough have occurred to a limited extent. Have had a few deaths from pneumonia, something very unusual for this county. There has been an epidemic of hog cholera. Public buildings are in good condition. Cumberland—Dr. James A. Hodges, Fay-etteville. The county is in good sanitary condition, and the town of Fayetteville is in perhaps better condition than for several years. More interest seems t# be manifested in hygienic matters than heretofore. Measles have prevailed throughout the county. The public buildings have been thoroughly disinfected. Currituck—Dr. F. W. Ritter,* Moyock. Whooping-cough is prevalent. There have occurred several cases of pneumonia and considerable malarial fever since the ground has been ploughed. Davidson—Dr. R. L. Payne, Jr., Lexington. Measles have prevailed with a few cases of whooping-cough and diphtheria. Duplin—Dr. James W. Blount,* Kenans-ville. The sanitary condition of county is good. No contagious diseases. Public buildings in good condition. Durham—Dr. N. M. Johnson. Durham. Measles have prevailed more or less all over the county. The county mortality for April was very large, the greater number of deaths being from measles complicated with pneumonia. Efforts are being made to improve the condition of the jail and poor-house, which is only fairly good. Edgecombe Dr. Julian M. Baker, Tarboro. No report. Forsyth—Dr. D. N. Dalton, Winston. No report. Franklin—Dr. E. S. Foster, Louisburg. There has been one case of hemorrhagic malarial fever, and measles and whooping-cough are prevailing extensively in nearly all sections of the county. Gaston—Y)x. E. B. Holland, Dallas. No report. Greene—Vix. W. C. Galloway, Snow Hill. The sanitary condition of county is good. Also
