Measles have prevailed in all parts of the county. There have occurred also scattering cases of bronchitis, meningitis, dysentery and rheumatism. The poor-house is in good condition, and the jail is much improved since the last report, having been thoroughly renovated. Hyde—V>x. Edward Clark,* Middletown. No report. Iredell—T^y. M. W. Hill, Statesville. The sanitary condition of the county is pretty good. The epidemic of measles is about over. I hear of some pertussis, but have not seen a case. The poor-house is in good condiiion and the jail has been improved. Johnston—Dr. J. Ct. Rose, Smithfield. The general sanitary condition of the county is good. Some measles, whooping-cough and typhoid fever in different portions of the county. Condition of public buildings is very good. Jones—Dr. R. A. Whitaker, Trenton. An epidemic of influenza has prevailed, and there has been some pneumonia. The health of county has not been good during April. Public buildings in good condition. Lenoir—Dr. F. M. Rountree, Kinston. Have had no contagious diseases. County and public buildings in good sanitary condition. Lincoln-—^Dr. J. M. Lawing, Lincolnton. The county is comparatively very healthy. There is some measles in different portions. Public buildings in tolerably good condition. McDowell—T>x, J. H. Gilkey, Marion. Measles and whooping-cough have prevailed in many portions of the county. There has also been a good deal of pneumonia, bronchitis and rheumatism. Sanitary condition of jail and poor-house good. Macon—Dr. J. M. Lyle, Franklin. Measles have prevailed in some portions of the county. There have occurred a few cases of pneumonia and typhoid fever, and considerable influenza. Madison~-Dr, James K. Hardwick, Marshall. Measles and whooping-cough have been the prevailing diseases. Two cases of typhoid fever have been reported, with one death. A new and commodious poor-house is in course of construction.. Montgomery—Dr W. A. Simmons,* Troy. Measles have prevailed in all parts of the county, but not of a malignant type. A few household remedies generally effect a cure without the assistance of a physician. There is no effort being made to improve the condition of public buildings on account of the low state of the finances. New Hanover—Br, F. W. Potter, Wilmington. Diarrhoea has prevailed in the suburban portions of the city. There have occurred five cases of scarlatina and three of typhoid fever. The public buildings are kept in good sanitary condition. Noj'thampton—Dr. H. W. Lewis, Jackson. Pneumonia and bronchitis have prevailed in all parts of the county. The sanitary condition of county is very good. Jail is also in good condition, and the poor-house is improving. Onsloiv—Y)x. W.J. Montford, Ward's Mill. No report. Fender—T>x. W. T. Ennett, Burgaw. Malaria still prevails in the marshy districts. The sanitary condition of county is not as good as I would have it. There are some measles and typhoid fever. The poor-house is in as good condition as can be expected. Person—Dr. C. E.
