OF TIIE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA. 11 Dr. James K. Hall, Greensboro’, “ David T. Tayloe, Washington, “ Peter Custis, Newberne, “ William Warren, Edenton, “ Edmund Strudwick, Hillsboro’. The Committee on Constitutions and By-Laws of Auxiliary Societies made the following report. Adopted. To the Medical Society of the State of North Carolina : The Committee on Constitutions and>• By-Laws of Auxiliary Societies, respecfully report, that they have examined the Constitution and By-Laws of the Guilford Co., Medical Society, and find them to be in accordance with the requirements of this Society. April 27th, 1860. HUGH KELLY. Chairman. Dr. Charles E. Johnson, Chairman of the Committee on Prize Essays, 4 ‘ On the use of Tobacco,” etc'., asked that the Committee be continued on account of the knowlege that contestants had unavoidably been prevented from appearing before the Committee. The request was granted. Dr. Thomas moved to amend Art. 4th of the Constitution so as to read as follows: ARTICLE IV.—Of the Officers. Sec. 1. The officers of this Society shall be a President, four Vice Presidents, a Corresponding and Recording Secretary, and Treasurer. Sec. 2. At each annual meeting the Society shall elect by ballot one member from each County represented, who shall constitute a Committee on nominations , whose duty it shall be to noiiiinate the officers of the Society, delegates to the American Medical Association, orator and honorary members, and report the same for the action of the Society. Sec. 3. The report of said Committee'shall be decided by vote, viva voce, and the officers,, delegates and orator so elected, shall serve for one year, or until others are elected to succeed them. Sec. 4. None but permanent members and delegates, shall be eligible to the office of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The amendment *was carried by an unanimous vote. Dr. William T. Howard moved to alter Sec. 1 Art. 5th of the Constitution, by substituting the words “shall not be” for “may be and by inserting in Sec. 2 Art. 5th, the word “ not” after “ they shall” The amendment was adopted by an unanimous vote. Dr. Peter Custis announced the death of Dr. Alexander Taylor, of Newberne, and offered the following preamble and resolutions, which were adopted: Whereas : Since the last annual meeting, Dr. Alex. Taylor, of Newberne, a member of this Society, has been removed by death from our midst, Resolved, That we deplore this dispensation of Divine Providence, and sincerely sympathize with the afflicted family of the deceased.
