Abstract | Color print in three sheets with appendix. Portrays Yancey County and shows the area and distribution of soil types in the county. Roads, cities and towns, churches, schools, fire towers, radio towers, gaging stations, bridges, and other components of the built environment are also shown. Shows labeled mountains, ridges, gaps, and waterfalls; Pisgah National Forest, Mt. Mitchell State Park, Blue Ridge Parkway, Wilson Toll Road, Carolina Hemlock Camp, Camp Alice, Carolina Power and Light Company transmission lines, Mt. Mitchell Boys Camp, State Prison Camp, and Appalachian Trail. An index map appears as an inset on each sheet. Legends reporting the colors used to indicate the various types of soil and the symbols used to note churches, schools, etc., appear on the first sheet. A summary of the important characteristics of the soil of the county appears as an appendix. |
