Abstract | Black ink drawing with hand-applied colors; hinged with linen tape. Map shows part of the Swannanoa Gap Route of the North Carolina and Western Railroad, incorporated in 1852. Includes land cover, landowners, houses, rivers, creeks and streams, churches, stores, bridges, and roads along surveyed route. Relief shown by hachures. |
Historical Note | The surveys were completed by 1854 when Gwyn made a report to the General Assembly regarding extensions of the North Carolina Railroad. |
