Historical Notes | The face of this bill is decorated with a dove carrying an olive branch in its beak; below the bird is the inscription pax reddita (Peace Restored); date in the inscription relates to the North Carolina’s militia’s victory in May 1771 over the “Regulators,” a group of piedmont rebels who opposed the colony’s unfair taxation policies and the practices of local officials. |
