Project description | Interviews, 1970-1993, conducted by Ben F. Bulla chiefly for his book Textiles and Politics: The Life of B. Everett Jordan: From Saxapahaw to the United States Senate (1992). Interviewees are family members, friends, political associates, business associates, and employees of Jordan. There are also background materials, drafts of some chapters, and a complete unedited version of the book manuscript. |

Abstract | Edgar Cashwell, a native of Pennsylvania, moved to Saxapahaw, N.C. in 1938 as a teenager with his family. Like his mother and father, he worked in textile mills for several years, before becoming postmaster. He discusses the advantages and disadvantages of working in Saxapahaw; his relationship with Senator B. Everett Jordan; how he was appointed as postmaster; Mrs. Jordan and her interests; he also recalls several people who worked at the mill and specific incidents. |
