Abstract | This interview is part of Hannah Jessen's investigation into the lives of the mothers of migration. She is studying the relationship between mother and child, the ways they support their families in a new context, the new concerns that come with raising their children in a different country, and their hopes for their families and for themselves in the future. For this particular interview, however, Jessen sought to gain the perspective of an expert in the area of migration and family. Dr. Hagan is a Sociology professor at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an author, and has conducted research on migration. Dr. Hagan was able to offer an academic perspective on the mother-child relationship and on the changing role of the woman in migrant families that compliments the personal stories Jessen recorded with other interviewees. |
