Abstract | This interview is part of Hannah Jessen's investigation into the lives of the mothers of migration. Her interviews explore the relationship between mother and child, the ways they support their families in a new context, the new concerns that come with raising their children in a different country, and their hopes for their families and for themselves in the future. For this interview, Jessen sought to gain the perspective of a Mexican woman who migrated to the United States with her family and also had two more children since being here. Jessen met Adriana (pseudonym) a year ago when her children started attending the after-school tutoring program at the Human Rights Center where Jessen works. Adriana exemplifies many admirable traits of a migrant mother: strength, determination, selflessness, and humility. |
