Abstract	Print, mounted on linen. This map shows North Carolina west to Buncombe County. A note in the far western part of the state reads, "Boundary's not yet Settled." Shows cities and towns, lakes, swamps, canals, rivers, roads, county boundaries, schools, churches (with Baptist and Methodist churches specified), Quaker Meeting Houses, court houses, select houses and landowners, mountain ranges and peaks, mines, and shoals. Elevation shown by hachures; depths shown by stippling and shading.
Historical Note	This is the first map of North Carolina prepared from actual surveys since the Mouzon map of 1775. The map was done by Jonathan Price, who had made navigational and land surveys in the eastern part of the state, and John Strother, who had been an official surveyor in the drawing of the boundary line between North Carolina and Tennessee. Surveys were initially begun in 1792 with a grant of 500 pounds from the General Assembly, and through the financial backing of David Stone, governor of North Carolina, and Peter Brown, a successful lawyer interested in internal improvements, the map was completed and published in 1808.
