Abstract | Hand colored manuscript, mounted on linen. This is the map of a survey by Hamilton Fulton, state engineer, of the road from Salem to Fayetteville. The map was drawn by Robert H. B. Brazier, assistant state engineer, and portrays the route of the road between the two towns. This is one of a number of such surveys undertaken by Fulton and/or Brazier over a period of nearly a decade for the state Board of Internal Improvements in preparation for a new and accurate map of the state and to assist the board in its work of improving the state's transportation and commerce. The map shows churches, courthouses, and other landmarks. Towns and communities, intersecting roads, county boundaries, and rivers and creeks crossed by the road are noted and identified. Tables of distances appear at various places on the map. |
