Abstract	Print. The title of the map is incomplete, and it is undated. A date of February 1899 has been assigned to the map. It portrays the middle section of Pamlico Sound in Hyde, Pamlico, and Carteret counties from Long Point and Ocracoke Island west to Pamlico Point and Cedar Island. Soundings are given, and the depth of the water and contour of the bottom are also indicated by shading. Information relating to tides, lighthouses, buoys, soundings, and abbreviations used is found in text in the upper right corner of the map. A index map to the sheets of the survey of the sound appears as an inset below the title. A new edition of this map, entitled Pamlico Sound North Carolina western sheet, was published in 1907 (see MC.167.P1852.1907u).
