| Abstract | This map was published by the North Carolina State Highway Commission and shows the system of state maintained roads. Counties are both delineated and named and the names of towns and communities along the highway routes are given. Highways are numbered in red. A legend in the lower right-hand corner explains the symbols used to indicate hard surface roads, topsoil sand-clay and gravel roads, graded roads, and unimproved roads. With the exception of large bodies of water and courses of major rivers, no topographical features are shown. The map's scale is not indicated. A table of distances between county seats, diagram of standard route markers, and driving safety rules are found on the reverse of the map. |
