Abstract	Map portrays the coastline of North Carolina in Dare and Hyde counties from Wimble Shoals offshore from Salvo on Hatteras Island to Ocracoke Inlet. Communities featured include Hatteras, Portsmouth, Ocracoke, Frisco, Buxton, Englehard and Middleton. Coast Guard stations noted including Gull Shoal, Little Kinnakeet, Kinakeet, Durants, Ocracoke and Cupola. Cape Hatteras lighthouse also shown. Topographical features, roads and other landmarks also shown. Soundings are given, and the depth of the water is also indicated by contour lines and shading. Information relating to soundings, aids to navigation, tides, and other aspects of the map appears in the margins.
Historical Note	This map was prepared by the United States Coast and Geodetic Survy from surveys conducted to 1927 under the direction of Ernest Lester Jones (1876-1929) as director of the survey and issued in December 1928.
