The event was the first annual football round-up golf tournament for Southern Conference coaches, sportswriters, and sportscasters on 24 August 1950, which the marked the opening of the back nine holes of UNC's new Finley golf course (according to THE GASTONIA GAZETTE, 24 August 1950, page 7). Morton made the photograph that night (according to the photograph's caption in THE CHARLOTTE NEWS, 26 August 1950, page 9A). Photograph also appears in February 14, 1953 issue of THE STATE with identifying caption.
