What is now the Town of Boone , N.C. , was, perhaps the favorite camp of the famous pioneer , Daniel Boone . He made his headquarters here from 1760 to 1769 and this Town was named in his honor . Boone has an altitude of 3,333 feet and is the county seat of Watauga County . It is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and located in a sheltered valley high among the towering mountians of the Blue Ridge in Western North Carolina and is a popular tourist mecca .
