Phifer Home . The home of Mr . W.F . Phifer , Charlotte , N.C. , where the full Confederate Cabinet met for the last time , on April 26th , 1865 . The cause of its meeting there was the fact that Mr . Trenholm , Secretary and Treasurer , was ill and confined to bed . There the immediate flight of President Davis was decided upon and the final good-byes said to the two Cabinet Officers who remained in Charlotte -- Secretary Trenholm and Attorney General George Davis . This house is owned now by Colonel W.E . Holt . Published by Asheville Post Card Co. , Asheville , N.C . Commercialchrome .
