Color print. This map was prepared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Soils, in cooperation with the N. C. Department of Agriculture. The soil survey was undertaken in 1906 by W. Edward Hearn and G. M. McNider. It portrays Chowan County and shows the area and distribution of soil types in the county. Roads, railroads, cities and towns, and other components of the built environment are also shown. A Legend and a Soil Profile appear in the left and right margins outside the neatline.
