Color print. This map was prepared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Soils, in cooperation with the N. C. Department of Agriculture and the N. C. Agricultural Experiment Station. The soil survey was undertaken in 1922 by R. C. Jurney and W. D. Lee of the U.S. department and S. F. Davidson and W. A. Davis of North Carolina. It portrays Haywood County and shows the area and distribution of soil types in the county. Relief shown by hachures. Roads, railroads, cities and towns, churches, schools, power plants, and other components of the built environment are also shown. Legends reporting the colors used to indicate the various types of soil and the symbols used to note churches, schools, etc., appear in the lower left corner of the map inside the neatline.
