To David Stone and Peter Brown Esqrs. This First Actual Survey of the State of North Carolina Taken by the Subscribers is respectfully dedicated By their humble Servants Jona. Price, John Strother.
Hand-colored print, mounted on linen. This is probably the 1798 issue of this map from the proof plate engraved in Philadelphia by William Harrison, Jr., and printed by Charles P. Harrison. Several errors which appear on this map were corrected in the 1808 issue. This map shows North Carolina west to Buncombe County. A note in the far western part of the state reads, "Boundary's not yet Settled." Shows cities and towns, lakes, swamps, canals, rivers, roads, county boundaries, schools, churches (with Baptist and Methodist churches specified), Quaker Meeting Houses, court houses, select houses and landowners, mountain ranges and peaks, mines, and shoals. Elevation shown by hachures; depths shown by stippling and shading.
North Carolina Maps is made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the State Library of North Carolina.;
