This map was prepared by the U.S. Coast Survey and shows the progress of the survey in section IV from Cape Henry, Virginia, to Cape Fear, North Carolina, during the time period from 1846 to 1849. This particular map portrays the work in the area in the vicinity of Albemarle, Currituck, Roanoke, and Croatan sounds. Triangulation lines are shown, and the areas portrayed on individual topographical and hydrographical sheets are delineated and the year surveyed is noted. Explanatory notes regarding abbreviations ued on the map are found in the lower left below the title.
