Abstract |
Color print. This map was engraved and printed in Edinburgh by John Bartholomew (1831-1893) and published as plate 43 in and extracted from an unidentified edition of Black's General Atlas. The atlas was published in Edinburgh by Adam and Charles Black. A manuscript annotation provides a date of 1873 for the map, but North Carolina is portrayed at a situation date of ca. 1882 showing the Western North Carolina Railroad as being completed through Asheville to the Tennessee border at Paint Rock (January 1882). The map portrays all or parts of the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma (Indian Territory). Cities and towns, railroads, and rivers and other bodies of water are shown. Relief is indicated by hachures. |
