Hand colored print. This map was published in and extracted from John Pinkerton (1758-1826), A Modern Atlas published in London by Cadell & Davies and by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown in installments between 1809 and 1814. The map is plate 42 from the atlas and was drawn by L. Hebert and engraved by Samuel John Neele (1758-1824). It portrays the states of Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia and East and West Florida. Georgia is shown with its western boundary extending to the Mississippi River. North Carolina's border with Tennessee is poorly defined and is situated so far east that Asheville appears in Tennessee. Cities and towns are shown, major rivers and bodies of water are identified, and relief is indicated by hachures. Indian towns are identified and the locations of the major tribes in present date Alabama and Mississippi are noted.
