Bounded on the North by Virginia, on the easy by Person county, on the south by Orange & Alamance counties and on the west by Rockingham county. S.L. Venable C.S. Nov. 8th 1868."
Abstract	Pen and ink manuscript, hand applied colors. Map shows townships, school districts, churches, post offices, schools, mills, landowners, tanneries, saw mills.
Historical Note	The North Carolina Constitution of 1868 required counties to "divide... into convenient districts, to determine the boundaries and prescribe the names of the said districts, and report the same to the General Assembly before the first day of January, 1869" (Article VII, Section 3). The Public Laws of 1868 further specified that "a map and survey of said districts, when truly completed, [shall] be filed in the office of the Clerk of the Board of Commissioners of each County and the Secretary of State" (Chapter 20, p. 25).
