Print with manuscript annotations. This is the 1878 edition with corrections to 1905 of a map first published in 1874 by the U.S. Coast Survey. The office work was performed by Edward Hergesheimer and engraving by Henry M. Knight, H. C. Evans, A. Petersen, and J. G. Thompson. The map was drawn by Adolph Lindenkohl. It portrays the Neuse River from New Bern to Pamlico Sound. Soundings are given for the river and all tributary streams represented on the map. The contours of the bottom and depth of the water are also depicted by shading. Information relating to the soundings, tides, buoys, and lighthouses is found in text appearing in the map's margins. The town of Stonewall is shown with its original name of Jackson.
