Printed. This map is the 1881 edition issued by Superintendent Carlile P. Patterson (1816-1881) with corrections to 1908 of a map first issued in 1874. The engraving was executed by J. C. Kondrup, H. C. Evans, A. Petersen, J. G. Thompson, and Adolph Lindenkohl under the direction of Edward Hergesheimer. The map portrays the Pamlico River for its entire length. Soundings are given for the river and its tributaries, and the locations of buoys are noted. Information relating to the soundings, tides, lighthouses, buoys, and abbreviations used is found in text appearing in the margins of the map.
