The surrounding counties of Moore, Lee, Harnett, Cumberland, Bladen, Columbus, Robeson, Scotland, and Richmond are also shown in whole or in part. County seats and other principal towns are noted. The location of the State Sanitarium is shown over Montrose, N.C. The lines of the Carolina Central Railroad, Atlantic Coast Line Rail Road, the Aberdeen & Rockfish, and Seaboard Air Line Rail Road running through the area are indicated. The Cape Fear River is shown, but other waterways are reflected only in regard to the boundaries of the proposed new county. Statistics regarding area in square miles, population, and property valuation of Cumberland, Robeson, and Hoke counties are reported on the front of the map; other statistics supporting the formation of Hoke County are listed on the reverse.
