Abstract	Print, mounted on linen. This map was prepared by the U.S. Coast Survey and issued in November 1882 by Julius Erasmus Hilgard (1825-1891), superintendent of the survey. It is probably no. VI portraying the coastline from Cape Lookout to Cape Romain in the series of general charts of the Atlantic coast. This copy, however, has been extensively trimmed at the top and bottom so that the title and part of the geographical content is missing, and it actually portrays the coast of North Carolina and South Carolina from Bear Inlet to Cape Romain. Information relating to lighthouses and beacons and light vessels appears in the upper left corner of the map. This copy has been annotated to note the locations of lighthouses.
