Abstract	Depicts eastern portions of North Carolina and Virginia. Shows cities and towns, railroads, canals, landings, and natural features. North Carolina railroads include the proposed Southern Air Line Rail Road, Wilmington & Weldon Rail Road, and Petersburg & Roanoke Rail Road. Canals include the Albemarle & Chesapeake Canal, Dismal Swamp Canal, and Collins Canal. An inset table labeled "Explanations" gives the lengths of the Virginia and North Carolina canals and of "Canal and River Navigation." Part of the table is missing where the map has been torn.
