Notes |
This twenty-foot high bureau was built in 1926 to serve as the High Point, North Carolina, Chamber of Commerce information center, and to highlight the city's role as the "Home Furnishings Capital of the World." The piece was refurbished, remodeled, and renamed the "World's Largest Chest of Drawers" in the 1990s as a thirty-eight-foot tall 18th-century chest of drawers with two oversized socks dangling from a drawer in recognition of the city's hosiery industry. The building now stands at the corner of Westwood and Hamilton Streets. Other oversized furniture pieces exist in High Point and Thomasville, North Carolina. |
