Notes |
In 1896 four members of the Fletcher family founded a dry goods and tailoring business at 430 Trade Street in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A few years later they began producing several clothing lines, with the Big Winston Overalls brand becoming the most popular. Utilizing a traveling sales team of eleven, Big Winston Overalls were sold in the southeast from Maryland to Florida. At one time a three-story building on Salt Street adjacent to Old Salem was used to manufacture the overalls. The company closed in the early 1950s. The Salt Street building was occupied by Goody's Pharmaceuticals in the 1940s until it was donated to Old Salem, and was demolished in 1996. |
