Notes |
Arthel Lane (Doc) Watson (1923-2012), a native of Deep Gap, North Carolina, was an acoustic guitarist known for his flat-picking style, which enhanced the role of the guitar in the traditional strings-only bluegrass band arrangement. Doc Watson won seven Grammy music awards and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and maintained a large repertory of traditional bluegrass music. David Holt (1946- ) is a Texas native who plays ten musical instruments and is a popular storyteller. A priority of his career has been the preservation and performance of traditional American music. Richard Watson is Doc Watson's grandson and a noted blues guitarist. In 1998 Watson and Holt were asked to do a fundraising concert for public TV station WUNC, which was titled "The Hills of Home." The combination of music and discussion was very popular so the two artists continued the format until shortly before Doc's death. |
