AbstractCounties are both named and delineated. Cities, towns, post offices, and major roads are also shown. Relief shown by hachures and spot heights. Topographical features include mountain ranges, rivers, creeks, major bodies of water, and swamps and lowlands. Portions of the surrounding states of Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia are included. Views of Charleston, Table Mountain, and Chimney Rock and the French Broad River appear as insets. Longitude is measured from both Washington and Greenwich.
Bibliographic NoteNorth Carolina is depicted at a situation date of 1858-1859. The North Carolina Railroad is shown as being completed through to Morehead City (1858), but Alleghany County (created in 1859) does not appear. A dealer's manuscript notation dates the map at between 1857 and 1859.
