| Description | Drawing of a foot with tar on the heel, honoring North Carolina's soldiers in the Civil War. The front of the card reads, "1861-1865, the Tar Heels Roll of Honor. North Carolina, with a male population (military age) of 115,000 furnished 127,000 Confederate Soldiers Lost 40,735 of her brave sons, double the loss of any other state with 5,000 to spare. First at Bethel, Foremost at Gettysburg, the last at Appomattox. 'God Bless North Carolina' [signed] R.E. Lee." The bottom of the card includes the state toast, "Here's the the land of the Long Leaf Pine, The Summer land where the Sun doth Shine, Where the Weat grow Strong and the Strong grow Great, Here's to North Carolina, the good Old Tar Heel State." |
