The counties of both North and South Carolina are named and delineated with many in North Carolina being misspelled. The Great Smoky and Blue Ridge mountain ranges are indicated by hachures and the courses of rivers and the locations of major bodies of water are shown, but no other topographical features are included. County seats and other significant towns are shown along with major roads. North Carolina's western boundary with Tennessee has been correctly surveyed by the squaring off of the southwest corner. Longitude is measured from Greenwich and Washington.
North Carolina Maps is made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the State Library of North Carolina.
