| Historical Notes | The signature of G[reen] Hill remains vivid on this bill, while other signatures have faded almost completely. This testifies to the varying quality of inks used in eighteenth-century America, even on official documents. Most inks were produced with dyes, then from crushed walnuts or solutions made with soot or "lampblack." |
