Title | Three-hundred-dollar bill of credit, 1780 |
Creator | North Carolina. General Assembly (New Bern, N.C.) |
Date | May 10, 1780 |
Description | Three-hundred-dollar bill of credit issued in 1780, New Bern. |
Historical Notes | The backs of all the bills in the April 17 and May 10, 1780 issues include a credit to New Bern printer James Davis. On this three-hundred-dollar specimen from the latter issue, the Latin motto Aut numquam tentes aut perfice seems to offer a retort to those Americans who may have questioned the wisdom of waging war against Great Britain: "Either finish or never begin." |
