Description | One-hundred dollar bill of credit printed by James Davis and issued in 1780 at New Bern. |
Historical Notes | This is yet another bill found in the University Library's Preston Davie Collection. The Latin motto in the left corner, is translated "The brave may fall but never yieldl." Over 5,000 of these one-hundred-dollar denominations comprised part of the May 10, 1780 authorization, which in total face value amounted to 3,100,000 dollars. |

Transcription | DEATH TO COUNTERFEIT. One Hundred DOLLARS. No STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA. THIS BILL intitles the Bearer to receive ONE HUNDRED Spanish mill'd Dollars, or the Value thereof in Gold or Silfer, agreeable to an Act of Assembly passed at Newbern the 10th Day of May, 1780. Fortis cadere cedere non potest. |
