Historical Notes | This plain-looking, interest-bearing note was part of another issue printed by James Davis in New Bern. The May 28, 1757 authorization totaled only 5,306 pounds. This particular note, issued on August 7 that year, could be returned to North Carolina’s public treasury on that same date in 1758 to obtain six-percent interest on its face value [an additional seventy-two pence (or six shillings)]. |

Transcription | North-Carolina. No. This NOTE shall entitle the POSSESSOR thereof to Proclamation MONEY; with Interest, at the Rate of Six per Cent. per Annum, till the Twenty ninth Day of September, which shall be in the Year of our Lord, 1758, to be paid out of the Public Treasury, pursuant to an ACT of ASSEMBLY, passed at Newbern, on the 28th Day of May, 1757. Dated this Day of 1757. Pub. Treas. DEATH to Counterfeit. |
