Title | Thirty-shilling bill of credit, 1754 |
Creator | North Carolina. Colonial Assembly. |
Date | March 9, 1754 |
Description | Thirty-shilling bill of credit issued in 1754. |
Historical Notes | Complete with dormer windows on its roof, the clapboard “saltbox” house depicted on this bill would have been viewed as palatial by the vast majority of North Carolinians in the 1700s. Small, simply framed homes and mud-chinked cabins with few or no windows provided accommodations for most of the colony’s inhabitants. |
